Important Message From Dr. Rice

Dear Cairo Family,

I regret to inform you that Principal Jason Ronna passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022. As more information becomes available, we will share information accordingly. To help us process the untimely death of Mr. Ronna, we have decided to cancel school district-wide today.

When school resumes we will seek assistance from social agencies as well as clergy to help our students and staff deal with their feelings of shock and loss. I am sure that tomorrow will be a difficult day for us all.
As a parent, you may want to talk with your child about death because it impacts each person in different ways. How children react will depend on the relationship they had with the person who died, their age, and their prior experience with death.

Your child may:
·        Appear unaffected
·        Ask questions about the death repeatedly
·        Be angry or aggressive
·        Be withdrawn or moody
·        Be sad or depressed
·        Become afraid
·        Have difficulty sleeping or eating

We suggest that you listen to your child. If he or she wants to talk, answer his or her questions simply and honestly and be prepared to answer the same question repeatedly.

Our thoughts are with the family of Principal Jason Ronna.

Patrick Rice, Superintendent
