Cairo, IL – August 20, 2024 – Harold S. Jones Fine Arts Center is thrilled to announce the 5th Annual
Smooth Jazz on the River Festival, a premier event celebrating the vibrant and soulful genre of smooth
jazz. This year’s festival promises to be a remarkable two-day celebration of music, community, and
culture, taking place on September 1st and 2nd from noon to 10 p.m. at Fort Defiance State Park in Cairo,
Illinois.

Smooth Jazz on the River is more than just a festival; it is a heartfelt celebration of our community's
passion for music and connection. “We strive to bring the soulful sounds of jazz to Cairo, creating an
unforgettable experience that fosters connection and enriches our cultural landscape,” says Harold S.
Jones.

The festival will feature an impressive lineup of jazz talent, including the highly anticipated headliner, Dr.
Felipe Brito Quintet, performing Sunday evening. Dr. Brito, the esteemed Head of Jazz Studies at
Southeast Missouri State University, brings a rich blend of expertise and passion for jazz that promises to
captivate and inspire. Monday evening will be thrilled with headliner Dr. Bennett Wood and his famed
Jazz St.Louis ensemble. Wood is the Head of Jazz Studies at Webster University.
This year’s event will be held at the picturesque Fort Defiance State Park, offering a stunning backdrop
for a weekend filled with musical excellence. Attendees can enjoy a wide array of performances, food,
and local vendors—all free of charge. Vendors are also invited to participate at no cost, contributing to the
community spirit of the festival.
